28 students from Oasis Academy Hadley visited the Hertfordshire Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt on Friday 21st May
The students were divided into 3 groups and rotated around 3 activities throughout the day: Kayaking, Rock Climbing and Team Building Challenges.
The trip was organised by the PE Department as a Reward Trip to students.
The trip not only gave the students a chance to experience different outdoor adventure activities but also gave the students the opportunity to develop their team building skills and improve their self confidence and esteem.
75 year 11 students and 8 members of staff embarked on a weekend of immersion in English and Mathematics.
The purpose of the trip was to give targeted Year 11 students teaching and revision in English and Mathematics in order to turn D grades in to C grades.
We departed from the Academy at 11.00am and arrived at about 4.30pm. On arrival students participated in English and Mathematics lessons. Each day was spent with morning teaching sessions, followed by afternoon and evening activities for the students. Attendance to the teaching sessions and activities was compulsory. The balance between teaching and activities worked well. Students attended 6 teaching sessions in total. The activities included canoeing, Kayaking, abseiling, archery and rock climbing.
On the final evening student groups received these awards for demonstrating the qualities of the Hadley way – Aspire, Achieve, Care and Endeavour. There was also an award for the best poem which went to Yasemin Almond.
Relationships between staff and students were excellent. I am very grateful to the staff team who went beyond the call of duty to ensure that we had a very successful trip.
