Students from Oasis Academy Hadley organised a Christmas party for older people in their community on the afternoon 12th December. This was a great opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy each other's company and share some seasonal good cheer.
Students of all ages prepared hampers of Christmas gifts for 30 local residents from Albany Park and St Catherine's care homes, and the participants in the Academy's Age UK intergenerational IT learning project. Those too frail to attend had hampers delivered, and 30 more hampers will go to local families.
Young people from years 1-12 performed music and in a variety of styles from classical to modern carols; as one guest remarked, "The steel pans remind me of the music back home". The Academy's brand new cheerleading group made its first performance and the award-winning Academy dance company also executed a stylish tap routine.
Guests were very appreciative of the whole Academy's effort, from site team chauffeuring guests in the minibus, to 6th formers who prepared the entertainment. This included a Christmas quiz, and table service of seasonal food and drink. Even Santa made a surprise appearance.
As one team member of the local care home said, "thank you so much; we don't have many opportunities to get out and we all had a wonderful time." Thank you to all the staff and students who made this possible, and to our guests for such a great celebration.
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
