Oasis Academy World Champion kicks off new season with an award

The last year has been quite a roller coaster for a local student from Oasis Academy Hadley, but he has quite literally taken it in his stride.

17 year old Jordan Arthur was crowned World Schools 100m Champion in November last year and has now scooped a ‘Special Recognition Award’ at the inaugural Oasis Community Learning Annual Awards held in Birmingham on the 11th May.

In addition to his success on the track, Jordan has been handed the Award due to his attitude and work off of it; as a mentor to disaffected young students, he is humble, polite and a true role model to others.

Principal of Oasis Academy Hadley, Lynne Dawes, said, “Jordan is a positive role model in the Academy. His success is down to his hard work and natural talent, but it has never gone to his head. He is a down-to-earth, hard-working student who recognises that success in education is every bit as important as his sporting success. He fully deserves this award and we look forward to seeing and hearing great things from him in the future.”

Steve Chalke, Founder and CEO of Oasis Community Learning, said, “It’s fantastic that Jordan is finding success both on and off the track. He typifies some of the newly launched Oasis Community Learning Charter which says we are unique, we are achievement, we are hope, we are future. Congratulations Jordan!”

Jordan said, “I’m really happy to have been chosen for this award. So much has already happened this year, and it’s great to feel supported by my friends and teachers at the Academy. Hopefully, if I can carry on working hard, then I can achieve even more both at school and in athletics.”

Our Education Charter statements encapsulate the core essence of what Oasis Community Learning is striving to achieve; the values in the statements express what motivates our educational emphasis and focus, while also describing the attitudes and attributes shared across our organisational family. These statements are our identity and DNA – they inform the reader or listener who we are, and what we want to achieve, both in an educational setting, but also in our holistic approach to each and every person we encounter.

The Oasis Charter , which spells out the things that motivate our educational focus and emphasis, can be found here, and is captured in the format, ‘We Are...’:

We are community – we are relationships
We are learning – we are achievement
We are unique – we are inclusive
We are enjoyment – we are perseverance
We are hope – we are future
We are Oasis...

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
