Congratulations goes to Leanne Harvey, a Year 11 pupil in Somerville Community who was chosen to represent London in the Disability Sports Events Nationwide Swimming Championships held in Sheffield before Christmas.
Leanne and her brother collected a total of six silver and six bronze medals at the competition and helped the London Disabled Swimming Squad to come 6th out of the twelve teams competing.
Leanne said ‘ I was spotted by the Disabled Swimming Squad coach who also coaches for the Great Britain team whilst swimming with my local team. She asked if my brother and I wanted to join the team to compete. I’m so glad I did and we are both very happy about winning all these medals’. She finds the 3 - 4 night a week training sessions hard work but her persistence and determination has really paid off.
Leanne is very modest about her success!! She is a remarkable and self-motivated young lady whose disability does not stop her achieving. She plans to continue training so she can participate in the next Disability Sports Event held in March.
