Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a list of frequently asked questions about this Academy and Academies in general.

If you cannot find an answer to your question within the website or on this page please submit your question using the submit function at the bottom of this page.

  • What are Academies?

Academies are all-ability schools serving local communities and working in partnership with the Department for Education, Local Authority, local businesses, other schools and other local stakeholders.

  • Why was the name 'Oasis Academy Hadley' chosen?

'Oasis' is used to show that the Academy is part of the family of Oasis Academies across England.'Hadley' originates from John Hadley (1682-1744), an acclaimed English Mathematician. John Hadley was born in Enfield, and lived much of his life there. He was the inventor of the octant which became the base upon which the sextant was invented. The sextant was used by Sailors to navigate their ships. John Hadley was so much acclaimed by his peers, that he was elected Vice-President of the Royal Society of London in 1728. Not only do we feel this emphasises the Maths specialism of the Academy, but also Enfield.
  • Are there other Oasis Academies?

As of September 2010 there will be 12 Oasis Academies; two in NE Lincolnshire (Immingham and Wintringham), two in Southampton (Lord’s Hill and Mayfield), two in Bristol (Brightstowe and John Williams), two in Croydon (Coulsdon and Shirley Park), two in Greater Manchester (MediaCityUK and Oldham) and two in Enfield (Hadley and Enfield).

Further details can be found on the Our Academies page.

  • How are Academies funded?

The Department for Education meets the capital and running costs for an Academy in full, as a part of an overall strategy to raise standards beyond the improvements already made by the predecessor school.  Once up and running Academies receive equivalent funding to other secondary schools in the same area.

  • How would the Academy improve education for the students?

The Oasis Academy would build on the achievements of the predecessor school but becoming an Academy allows more opportunities for new ideas and improved facilities that would help to raise standards.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
