Teaching & Learning for Years R-6
At Oasis Academy Hadley we teach an exciting and creative curriculum that takes account of the latest research on how our children think and learn. Our aim is to encourage our learners to achieve their very best and to ensure they develop their skills and talents in all aspects of intellectual, social and physical development.
The Phase 1 curriculum is divided into the following stages:
- Early Years Foundation Stage (3-5 years)
- Key Stage 1 - Years 1 (5-6 years) and 2 (6-7 years)
- Key Stage 2 - Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (8-11 years)
Early Years and Foundation Stage:
There are four principles which underpin our Early Years and Foundation Stage curriculum:
- A unique child - every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured
- Positive relationships - a key worker has special responsibility for working with a small number of children giving them reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents or carers
- Enabling environments - we provide a rich and varied environment which supports children's learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe yet challenging,
- indoor and outdoor space.
- Learning and development - Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. In their play children learn at their highest levels. We provide wide-ranging and varied interests that engage and involve children for sustained periods.
Our Early Years and Foundation Stage curriculum is divided into six areas of learning and development:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Creative development
- Physical development
