Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Learning Communities

Oasis Academy Hadley has 6 communities named after famous entrepreneurs, mathematicians and musicians. Students chose to name the communities after Bill Gates, Alan Sugar, Annie Lennox, Stevie Wonder, Mary Somerville and Blaise Pascal.

Students and staff belong to one of the six learning communities. We organise community activities for the students across the Academy, these include Sports day and Community Day 10s. Students from KS2 and the secondary phase often work together on these activities.

In the secondary phase each community contains ten vertical learning groups, with a few students from year 7 to year 13 in each. These vertical learning groups:

  • Promote a strong sense of community
  • Raise aspirations
  • Enable close tracking
  • Facilitate good communication between parents and carers
  • Promote good behaviour
  • Increase student leadership opportunities
  • Enable younger and older students to work together
