Principal Students
Our Principal Leaders act as role models, mentors and embody the ethos of the Academy. They have a crucial role in the image of the Sixth Form and ensuring its success.
The Principal leaders lead charity fundraising and student voice amongst the sixth form and represent the Academy at public and community events. They lead the Student Council and meet regularly with the Principal to discuss issues, review policies and procedures.
- There are three Principal Students who are selected from an interview process from the 12 Student Leaders, who are elected by their communities, using a voting process.
- Principal students act as role models, mentors and they embody the ethos of the academy.
- Play a crucial role in the success of the student leadership.
- Oversees the daily activities and operations within the academy.
- Principal student will wear a principal student badge.

Student Community Leaders
The Student Community Leaders and Deputy Community Leaders are sixth form students elected by their fellow students to be leaders in their community. They support with the smooth running of their Community by coordinating assemblies, organising events and mentoring younger students.
They play an active role in Academy life assisting with charity fundraising events and the pastoral and wellbeing activities during learning group time.

Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors are an important student leadership role within the Academy.
Within the Academy we have a great group of Student Ambassadors who fulfil regular duties and assist at special events. Through their roles they help the Academy run smoothly and provide support to other students. They are great example of students who show care for others.
Student Ambassadors are selected from Phase 2, Years 7-11, and Phase 1, Years 3-6. The role of Student Ambassador is one of the highest student positions in the Academy, and as a result is only awarded to students who demonstrate the highest standards in relation to the Hadley Way. Students who succeed in the Ambassador role can apply to be a Sixth Form Ambassador if they chose to study in the Sixth Form. These roles require a greater level of leadership, and often have a greater impact in student achievement.
The Ambassador programme provides students with frequent to develop their leadership skills and take on additional responsibilities. The Student Ambassador Team fulfil regular weekly duties at learning guide time, break and lunchtime within their communities. They also help with the running of special events such as Open Evening or Parent Meeting Days. This group of students carry out these roles in a very professional manner and are a credit to the Academy.

Student Council
Our Student Council is responsible for driving the strong student voice that exists at Oasis Academy Hadley.
What we do as a Council:
- Listen to student views and share these at the Full Council Meetings
- University Group and Community assemblies
- Complete focused questionnaires once a month
- Meet with your Community's University Group Representatives
- Meet with the Principal as a whole Academy Council
- Visit other schools
- Be involved with Academy activities
- Work with the local community
Also, as a Student Council member we:
- Are responsible for driving the voice of the students.
- Meet regularly to discuss the day to day running of the academy.
- Complete monthly focussed questionnaires to gain further suggestions from Hadley students.
- Are involved with variety of academy activities.
- We wear Student Council Badges
Dance Captain
The dance captains at Hadley have an important role in promoting performing arts and demonstrating areas of choreography to others. Captains will also oversee and maintain artistic standards and help to choreograph performances.
Dance Captains will play an important role in organising and planning future performances and continuing to raise the profile of performing arts.
Hadley Editors
Our Hadley Gazette Editors are responsible co-ordinating and managing the smooth and effective publishing cycle of The Hadley Gazette. Editors will ensure they effectively delegate and lead the team, by also supporting in researching, writing, editing, proofreading, filing, and editing. They have a crucial role in the creation and image of the Hadley Gazette and ensuring its success.
The Hadley Gazette Editors are selected through a panel consisting of Teacher Leaders and Student Leaders.
Hadley Editors responsibilities are:
- Researching articles and stories
- Interviewing and reporting sources
- Writing, editing and submitting a copy
- Attending events
- Proof reading
- Liaising with editors, sub-editors and other members of The Hadley Gazette team
- Be lead learners in the school and prepare and support activities that encourage the learning and competition of others.
- Be internal and external ambassadors for the school and act as role models for all students at Oasis Academy Hadley.
- Report to the student leadership team where relevant
- Meet with members of ALT, Phase leaders and The Head of Media
- Report and write in a professional manner, providing a balanced and unbiased representation
Hadley Journalist
Our Hadley Gazette Journalists are responsible in writing and assembling news stories that will interest the audience. Journalist’s research, write, edit, proofread, and file news stories, features, and articles. They have a crucial role in the image of the Hadley Gazette and ensuring its success.
The Hadley Gazette journalists’ will be selected through a panel consisting of Teacher Leaders and Student Leaders.
Hadley Journalist responsibilities are:

Horizons Innovative Creative Culture Uplifting Pupil (HICCUP’s)
The HICCUP’s are students who use their iPads in a innovative way to aid in their own independent learning.
HICCUP’s responsibilities are:
- Reviewing apps and making recommendations to support learning both in and out of classroom,
- Creating instructions for different pieces of software or apps to assist both students and staff,
- Running a lunchtime club to support students with iPad use, and
- Helping to inform others about the school’s e-safety policies.
Jack Petchey Award
Winners will:
- Receive a Jack Petchey Award Certificate
- Receive £250 to spend in the academy
- Receive The Jack Petchey badge
- Join the Jack Petchey club
- Attend the award celebration
The winners are nominated by teachers and students, so each month students will be asked who they think has shown what it takes to win the award. They play an active role in Academy life assisting with charity fundraising events and the pastoral and wellbeing activities during University group time.
Being a Jack Petchey winner is overwhelming...I feel so appreciated, like I have actually achieved something. It is quite humbling! |
Who can be can nominated?
Winners might be those who have:
- Demonstrated an aspect of the Hadley Way consistently.
- Shown they live up to the Jack Petchey Foundation motto by Inspiring, Motivating or Achieving.
- Shown courage in their daily lives against adversity – perhaps outside of the Academy as well as in it.
- Someone who has achieved excellence in any way and in any field such as sport, academic work, or other activities.
- Someone who has improved significantly in any subject and not given up.
Nominations:
- Anyone can nominate someone.
- Nomination forms are available from your Learning Guide and Community Leader.
- Nominations must be posted in the Jack Petchey box in Reception.
- So go and vote at the end of your Learning Guide time! Please post your nominations in the Jack Petchey box in Reception.
Librarians Aides
Literacy Mentor
Literacy mentors are a positive role model and provide consistent weekly attention for twenty minutes to their mentees, KS3 students in Years 7-9, by supporting them with their reading. Mentees can select books that suit their needs and enthuse them from the inspiring online library, ePlatform by Wheelers to make their reading experience more enjoyable and exciting.
Literacy Mentors listen to their mentees read aloud, encourage them with positive praise, and stimulate thinking about texts and engage mentees through careful questioning. To monitor mentee progress, mentors will complete a reading log after each session, reviewing success and improvements which is crucial to reading and literacy development.
Mentors will give their mentees the confidence, motivation, and support to succeed in school and in life and it is an excellent opportunity to promote community within the Academy. Literacy mentors will also be able to develop their own self-confidence as well as a range of skills; communication, leadership, teamwork, time management and listening, which are all crucial to their present and future
