Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Humanutopia Heroes

The Heroes are a wonderful group of around 90 students from year 9, 10 and 11 students at who volunteer their time to help others.

The year 9 Heroes run a lunchtime club for our Phase 1 students, and a break time games club for our year 7 and 8 students. The Heroes run these clubs to help the younger students in the academy make friends and learn to share and work as part of a team. The year 10 and 11 Heroes mentor year 7 and 8 students on a weekly basis. They have been helping the younger students to settle into the academy, to make friends, and to follow the academy expectations.

All Heroes have, this year, been involved in raising awareness of anti-bullying. In January they organised a week of activities, including board games at break time, treasure hunts, basketball matches and a bake sale to raise awareness of anti-bullying and who to go to for help. The Heroes are planning to run a soup kitchen before the summer for the local community, and organise a stall for the summer celebration event later in the year.

The Heroes meet fortnightly to discuss upcoming events they wish to hold. They are very kind, caring and hard-working individuals who always put others before themselves. For the past 3 years their hard work and dedication has been rewarded with tickets to We Day, an event organised by Free the Children, designed to inspire students to better their local and global community. This year some of our primary school students accompanied our year 9 Heroes to We Day, and got the opportunity to see Jessie J, Fleur East, Kate Winslet and Conar Maynard, amongst others, tell motivational stories about their childhood, and the need to make a difference in the world.
