Library
The academy promotes reading not only for pleasure but also for the development of skills needed for successful and independent learning. Our Library holds a wide range of fiction books to suit all reading abilities and personal interests. There is also a good selection of non-fiction books available to support the curriculum and enable further study. The Library houses an excellent Careers Information area that can be used to find out about life after school. The Library is open for students to choose and change books, read quietly, study or complete homework at lunch times.
As part of our Horizons programme, an enormous online library is available. All of our students can access this on their iPads from home or in school. Our students have access to thousands of books, eBooks and audio books as a result! On the students' iPad, there is an app preloaded called 'AccessIt'. This is where you can access the eBooks and see our library stock.
Our library has a huge range of resources and events for students. We run a variety of different activities, including:
- Reading groups
- After school clubs
- Lunchtime clubs
- Author visits
- Board Games
- Weekly stories
- Rhyme-and-play sessions for very young children
We encourage students to participate with the library's resources to develop a love of reading. They can speak with the librarian or visit the information board at the entrance of the library for details of upcoming activities and events.
