Biology is the study of life in all of its forms. It combines problem solving with practical skills and enables you to develop a scientific approach to the subject. This subject builds on the knowledge that students have already gained at GCSE. Key areas of study include:

• Biological Molecules: Understanding the building blocks of life.
• Cells: The fundamental units of life, their structure, and function.
• Genetics and Evolution: The principles of inheritance and the variation within and between species.
• Ecology and Ecosystems: The interactions between organisms and their environments.
• Human Biology: The anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the human body.
• Energy, Respiration, and Photosynthesis: The processes that power life.

Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and change of the matter which makes up our world. You will study the world right down to its molecular and atomic structure, discovering more about the elements and compounds which surround us in our daily lives.

Cooking is chemistry. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. Chemistry explains why detergent works better in hot water and how one pain killer will be better than another if you’ve got a headache. It enables you to understand the world around you on a deeper level.

Criminology looks at the types of crime that take place within our society. How do we decide which behaviour is criminal? How do we explain why some people commit crime and how can we use different theories of criminality to explain this behaviour?

Criminology is an Applied General qualification primarily designed to support learners progressing to university; however, much of the course is vocationally relevant, offering opportunities to learn from practical activities and the expertise of professionals currently working in criminology. It offers exciting and interesting learning experiences in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system. If you are fascinated by the workings of crime and punishment, this course could be for you!

Develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through the study of current economic issues, problems and institutions. A-Level Economics builds the knowledge and skills needed to understand and analyse data, think critically about issues and m ake informed decisions.

Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions. They will also build upon their quantitative skills and appreciate that, when evaluating arguments, both qualitative and quantitative evidence are important.

English Literature is all about the exploration and analysis of literature that has shaped and continues to shape society. Over the two year course you will study a range of novels, poetry, and plays and learn how to form critical opinions on these texts. See below for an overview of the course:

Film Studies offers students the chance to explore the full depth and breadth of one of our culture’s most important art forms. Through a comprehensive study of the various critical areas of Film Studies, students will develop their knowledge of the history of cinema and its critical developments, from the silent era through the golden age of Hollywood up to the present day. Students will come to understand how films can’t help but reflect the cultures in which they are made and through this how film has become the global language of storytelling.

This course will be taken as a full A level (two years) leading to a University degree. Languages are highly versatile and complement most subjects. Language skills can be used in almost any career, and particularly in businesses that trade internationally.

A-Level Further Maths is an advanced-level mathematics course that builds upon the foundation laid in A-Level Maths. While A-Level Maths covers a wide range of mathematical topics, A-Level Further Maths takes students on a deeper exploration and examination of mathematical concepts, providing a more rigorous and comprehensive understanding. It is designed for students who have a strong interest and aptitude in mathematics and wish to further develop their skills in this subject

A Level Geography is an in-depth study that bridges the gap between the natural world and human societies. It's designed to equip students with a broad understanding of the Earth's processes, landscapes, and the environmental and societal challenges we face. It's a dynamic field that analyses and interprets the world in a way that is relevant to our current global issues.

A-Level History equips you with skills highly regarded by universities and employers alike. History teaches you to analyse sources and arguments, fostering a critical approach to information. You'll learn to articulate complex ideas clearly, both in writing and orally. It will strengthen your research abilities.

Tackling historical questions requires effective research, a skill that's invaluable in any career. By studying the past, you gain insights into current global issues, making you more informed about the world around you.

A-Level Maths offers a comprehensive exploration of mathematical theories and applications, designed to build on the knowledge gained at GCSE. The curriculum is structured to develop students' understanding of mathematical reasoning, methodologies, and how to apply these in practical and abstract contexts. The core areas covered include:

• Pure Maths: This forms the backbone of A level Maths, focusing on advanced algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and vectors. Pure Maths develops students' logical reasoning and analytical skills.
• Statistics: Students learn about data collection, analysis, probability, and interpretation. This section is crucial for understanding real-world applications of maths, such as in the fields of science, business, and economics.
• Mechanics: This area applies mathematical concepts to physical situations, dealing with forces, energy, motion, and the properties of materials. It's particularly relevant for students interested in engineering and physics.

As a Media Studies student, you will analyse how media products use language and representations to create meaning. You will learn about the media industry and how the industry affects how media products are made. You will investigate media audiences, exploring who are the people who watch, read and consume the products and considering how different people might respond to products differently, and why.

A-Level Physics is a deep dive into the principles that govern the universe, from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies. It is a subject that balances theoretical knowledge with practical application, designed to challenge and expand students' understanding of the physical world.

Students will explore a range of core topics including mechanics, electricity, waves, and modern physics. These areas cover everything from the motion of objects and the forces acting upon them to the behaviour of light and sound waves, as well as the peculiarities of quantum physics and relativity.

A-Level Politics is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of political systems, political ideas, and international relations. Students will explore key political ideologies such as conservatism, liberalism, and socialism. The syllabus also focuses on the UK Government. This includes the structure and function of the UK government, the role of Parliament, and the Prime Minister. 

Students will study other countries political systems and compare and contrast with the UK. And also understand the function of international relations.

A-Level Psychology is a comprehensive course that dives deep into the human mind, offering insights into why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad understanding of various psychological concepts, theories, and methodologies.

A-Level Sociology examines human values and culture, understanding human relationships, social interactions and more. You will be introduced to sociological concepts and build your awareness of important social issues. You will analyse the links between health, nature, poverty and welfare. You examine how people interact and understand the importance of social structure in tackling social problems.

A-Level Turkish This course is ideal for students who have an interest in developing fluency and understanding in Turkish, well beyond GCSE standards. You will learn using the language to express opinions and justify comments, explore a broad range of social issues, and learn to read and write in a modern foreign language.

You will develop research and study skills useful for further education and the workplace and the opportunity to progress to HE courses and careers in many science-based industries such as Primary Teaching, Childcare, Nursing, Sports Management or Sports Training. 

The course covers all three sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics but in an “applied” context. That means you will not only learn the science but also how it is used in real life organisations.

BTEC Business will develop a real understanding in becoming an effective business professional both theoretically and practically. You will research real business practice and cover topics such as marketing, personal and business finance, event management, international business and the principals of business.

BTEC Health and Social Care is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to kick-start a career in health and social care.

You will learn about human lifespan development, health and social care values and a range of further knowledge and skills to support you to work successfully in a health and social care setting, such as hospitals, community and primary care or supported living projects.

BTEC Information Technology will teach you all about the components that make up IT systems, including hardware, software, and networks. You will also explore the impact of emerging technologies on IT systems, such as the Internet of Things and cloud computing.

You will also explore the importance of data management within IT systems. You will develop your skills in designing, creating, and testing systems to manage information, including Microsoft Access Databases. 

We'll also cover Cyber Security and Incident Management, which is a critical aspect of IT in today’s digital world. In this course, you will learn about the threats to IT systems, including viruses, malware, and cyber-attacks. You will also develop an understanding of how to protect against these threats and respond effectively in the event of an incident.

BTEC Music Technology will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to produce, mix and master music. You will study a range of units that will challenge you and the way you think about sound.  This will include composition, remixing and reworking tracks, audio recording in and outside of a studio as well as learning about the industry as a whole.

We offer a one year foundation programme open to students who have 5 or more GCSE passes at grade 3 and above.

The Extended Project Qualification is a qualification highly valued by Russell Group and top third universities. Students are given personalised support to investigate and research a topic they are interested in in greater depth.

The project can be an essay, computer programme, performance or a piece of art. Completing an EPQ in addition to your three A levels will add value to your UCAS application and may lower the grade offer from a university. We have a strong record of academic success with Past EPQ projects include:

A Levels

Students must have 5 or more GCSE passes, including English and Mathematics, grade 5 or B to study A levels.

• For most subjects a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in the subject
• For Psychology, Politics and Sociology a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in English
• For History and Geography 5 a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in English and History / Geography
• For Economics a GCSE pass at grade 6 or above in English and Maths
• For Sciences a GCSE pass at grade 6,6 or above in additional sciences or a grade 6 or above in two or more single sciences
• For Mathematics GCSE pass at grade 6 or above at GCSE in mathematics
• For Further Maths GCSE pass at grade 8 or above at GCSE mathematics

Vocational Level 3 Courses including BTEC

Students must have 5 or more GCSE passes, including English and Mathematics, grade 4 to study level three vocational BTECs.

Level 3 students must choose three subjects from the four blocks, only one subject can be chosen from each block. Level 3 students who have Turkish GCSE grade 4 and above have the option of choosing A level Turkish in additional to their option choices.

Students must have 5 or more GCSE passes at grade 3.
